Roman Arches
Roman arches have influenced many cultures. The arches have found a place in modern world as well. The modification and borrowing of the Roman arch meant that the structure would have a lasting impact on the world.
The arch hasn't always stayed as the typical curved structure most of us imagine. The architectural design evolved and inspired new types of buildings. For example, the domes seen on the tops of many large buildings come from the design of an arch.
Even though we don't notice it, arches are used in all around us. Some doorways are arch shaped. Cities have buildings with arches for design and support. For example, the Washington Square Arch in New York (right) is an arch derived from the Roman Triamphal Arches.
